Qld burglary victim stabs alleged attacker

A Cairns man assaulted by three burglars stabbed one of his alleged attackers in the stomach, police say.

Three men allegedly assaulted the 59-year-old after breaking into his unit in the Cairns suburb of Westcourt in the early hours of Wednesday.

They left after stealing a number of items. However, one of the men returned to the unit and was allegedly stabbed by the resident.

The injured man was found nearby and taken to hospital, where he is under guard.

Police are questioning both men, but no charges have been laid.
