Qld boy, 10, awarded for triple-zero call

A 10-year-old boy whose father was badly burned by a heat gun in Townsville will be awarded for his calm, detailed emergency call to authorities.

Ryan Wilson was fast to act after his father Brett was injured while working on a motorcycle at their Thuringowa Central home on the afternoon of June 24.

Mr Wilson suffered partial thickness burns when a canister ignited and exploded, but as he rushed to cool the burns it was Ryan who called triple-zero.

The Queensland Ambulance Service said their dispatcher was impressed by the boy's calm demeanour as he relayed crucial information without being prompted.

"Ryan's story reinforces the importance of teaching children how to call triple (zero) and what to do in a home emergency," a QAS spokeswoman said.

Ryan will be presented with a certificate of appreciate at the Kirwan Ambulance Station on Friday.
