Qld AG appeals over jail term for basher

Queensland's attorney-general has appealed over the sentence given to a man who bashed two pub patrons for being "too old".

Dylan Bradley Castle was sentenced in May to four-and-a-half years' imprisonment for the vicious and unprovoked attack on two men, aged 73 and 64, outside Brisbane's Victory Hotel in July 2013.

Castle will be eligible for parole after serving 18 months in jail.

CCTV footage showed 25-year-old Castle repeatedly hit and punch cancer patient Graham Law, 64, and his brother-in-law Terrence White after knocking them to the footpath.

The pair were in town for Mr Law's bone cancer treatment and had dined at the pub when Castle noticed them and said they were "too old" to be there after 9pm.

Lawyers for Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie argued before the Court of Appeal in Brisbane on Thursday, that Castle's sentence was inadequate and parole eligibility too soon.

The three appeal justices reserved their decision.
