Professor knocks back scammers' claims

A prominent Queensland scientist has reassured locals he has no plans to move overseas after door-knocking scammers tried to collect money to "keep him in Australia".

Professor Ian Frazer, the creator of the Gardasil cervical cancer vaccine, said it was unfortunate people appeared to be getting ripped off in the name of medical research.

"I'm very happy continuing my research here at The University of Queensland," Prof Frazer said on Thursday.

Scammers sporting fake lanyards have reportedly hit the Brisbane suburbs of Tarragindi, Camp Hill, Toowong and Kangaroo Point.

Alleged victims claim two young women have been going from house to house saying more funding is needed for the city's Translational Research Institute.

If enough money isn't raised, it's claimed Prof Frazer will move to Switzerland.

Queensland Police have been notified of the suspected scam.
