Premier wants Qld base for federal funds

Queensland's premier says infrastructure funds for northern Australia are inaccessible and legislation needs to be fast-tracked.
The $5 billion Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) was announced in the Federal budget in May 2015.
But Annastacia Palaszczuk says the funds remain inaccessible.

"Without legislation the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility is frozen," she said.
"The appointment of Rockhampton-based Senator Matt Canavan as the junior Minister for Northern Australia is a positive step.
"The next positive step would be to have a Brisbane headquarters for NAIF and a presence in regional Queensland ... it would be disappointing if NAIF was Sydney-centric."
