Queensland Premier Steven Miles will extend the trial of 50 cent fares on public transport right across the state, 9News can reveal.

The initiative was announced earlier this year and set to run for six months starting in August.

It was one of the state Labor government's cost-of-living measures put through in the lead up to the election.

The "almost free" fares have been very popular among Queenslanders.

The state will head to the ballot boxes on October 26.
