Police struggle with axe man in Qld
A man armed with an axe wrestled with police officers after they failed to subdue him with a stun gun in central Queensland.
Several people called police in Gladstone on Saturday night to say a man with an axe was standing in the middle of the road, making threats.
When officers arrived, the man immediately came at them, wielding the axe and making threats, police say.
They shot him with a Taser, but the barbs from the stun gun lodged in the man's clothing, failing to halt him.
He continued towards police and the Taser was fired again, causing him to fall to the ground.
But moments later the man tried to get up.
"Police were forced to struggle with him before being able to subdue and handcuff him," police said in a statement.
The 46-year-old is due to face court on Monday, charged with assaulting police, going armed to cause fear, and contravening a direction.
