Police shoot man dead at Qld property

A man shot dead by police at a rural property on Queensland's Darling Downs had threatened officers before they opened fire, police say.

A full investigation is underway into the incident, which was among three shootings in Queensland on Thursday.

The 65-year-old was shot after police were called to a property at Freestone, near Warwick, about 4pm.

Officers searched the property before the man emerged from bushland and confronted officers, police said.

Superintendent Mark Kelly said the officers had attempted to talk with the man moments before the shooting.

"They tried to speak with the man, negotiate with the man to try and get a peaceful and safe resolution," he said.

He died at the property despite attempts to revive him.

A 64-year-old woman at the property was not injured.

The officers, who are understood to be experienced, have not been stood down.

Supt Kelly said the priorities for police were to undertake a comprehensive investigation and offer support to the man's family and the officers involved.

"It's a really sad and tragic event," he said.

The police Ethical Standards Command is investigating the shooting, with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.

It was the second fatal shooting in the state on Thursday, with a 35-year-old man dying in a Brisbane hospital after being wounded in the stomach at a Tingalpa house.

A 21-year-old man was also wounded in the chest and arm in another shooting at Chinchilla on Thursday night. He presented himself to hospital and remained in a critical condition on Friday.
