Police on hunt for opal thieves

A collection of valuable opals has been stolen from an elderly man's Queensland home.

The man's safe was stolen from his Inglewood property which was broken into on Saturday night.

He used the vault to store a trove of opals and cash.

It's understood the collection has a combined value of more than $100,000.

But the opals also hold sentimental value for the 75-year-old man, police say.

They're now appealing for anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour on Saturday night to come forward.
