Police officer rescued from Qld mountains

A police officer undertaking search and rescue training at a Sunshine Coast hinterland mountain has himself become the subject of a retrieval mission.

The 55-year-old fell about three metres down Mount Tibrogargan, one of the Glass House Mountains, on Thursday morning.

He was there on a training exercise with SES volunteers.

Due to the steep terrain, a CareFlight helicopter was called to winch him to safety.

The off-duty officer suffered a fractured elbow and several cuts to his face and arms.

Hikers have died on the popular 364m-high Mount Tibrogargan, including a man who fell from a cliff in January.
