Police flee violent mob in FNQ

Police have been forced to run for their lives after a violent gang turned on them in a remote Cape York community in Queensland

The officers abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot after responding to a disturbance between a large group of people in Pormpuraaw at around 11:30pm on Monday.

They returned on Tuesday to find extensive damage to the vehicle's panels and windows, but were able to drive it back to the police station.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the damage.
