Petrol prices could continue to fall for Queenslanders

Queensland motorists could benefit from further petrol price falls before Christmas, the RACQ predicts.

The motoring body says some service stations have dropped prices to almost $1 a litre with the average price in Brisbane and Ipswich about $1.14.

"They could go up at any time but we have our fingers crossed that prices will continue to fall particularly during this week before they go up," RACQ spokeswoman Renee Smith said on Tuesday.

"We wouldn't be surprised if we saw more service stations dropping their prices in the southeast closer down to that $1 a litre mark."

RACQ research showed global oil prices were at their lowest since December 2008 - the height of the global financial crisis.
