Permanent role for anti-bikie task force

Queensland's anti-bikie task force will become a permanent fixture of the state's police service from May, following a restructure of the State Crime Command.

Taskforce Maxima, set up by former premier Campbell Newman as a controversial measure to crackdown on bikie gangs, will be incorporated into the newly created Organised Crime Gangs Group.

It will be one of five groups to sit within the State Crime Command, which also includes the Child Abuse and Sexual Crimes Group, Drug and Serious Crimes Group, Financial and Cyber Crimes Group, and the Homicide Group.

Acting Police Commissioner Peter Martin wouldn't reveal exactly how many officers currently worked within Taskforce Maxima, but promised all would keep their jobs as part of the restructure.

"Certainly from our perspective, this isn't about a diminution of effort," he said at the announcement on Thursday.

"This is, in fact, an enhancing of effort and a recognition of the fact that the organised crime challenge is changing and morphing over time."

Taskforce Maxima officers have arrested more than 3400 people for almost 10,000 offences since its inception in 2013.
