Pay bonus for Qld public servants

Queensland public servants have another reason to enjoy the Labour Day long weekend after netting a new pay deal with a one-off $1300 bonus.

Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace says the state's 50,000 core public sector workers have accepted an enterprise agreement, which delivers annual wage increases of 2.5 per cent for the next three years.

"It also provides for a one-off payment of $1300 to employees or pro rata for part time and casuals in recognition of the 16-month period during which they had no pay increase," she said.

Ms Grace said 98 per cent of public sector workers had signed off on the deal in an employee ballot on Friday.

The result ended a long period of uncertainty for the workers whose last agreement expired in July 2012 and was referred to arbitration in January 2013 by the Newman government.
