Passers-by arrest dangerous driver on GC

Passers-by have captured a man who allegedly drove a stolen vehicle into another car on the Gold Coast and left behind a possibly injured woman as he tried to run away.

Police tried unsuccessfully to stop the 33-year-old man twice at Labrador on Wednesday afternoon and Southport before he became caught in traffic and tried to get away by driving along a footpath and into oncoming traffic.

It's alleged he collided with a vehicle and ran from the scene, leaving behind the 22-year-old woman who was driving the other car.

He was captured by nearby members of the public and detained until police arrived, while the woman was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

The man will appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with dangerous driving and failing to remain at the scene of a crash.
