Clive arrives late for marathon sittings

Clive Palmer has made a late appearance in a Queensland court where lawyers in his high-profile battle with taxpayer-funded liquidators have spent a marathon day making submissions.

Justice John Bond presided over the Brisbane Supreme Court hearing on Wednesday, having dismissed an application from the former politician to recuse himself the day before.

The mining magnate had argued there was actual and apprehended bias and possible prejudgement against him and claimed it stemmed from the fact Justice Bond had raised matters while he was absent from court during a hearing in September.

The court sat from 8.30am on Wednesday to try to get through the lengthy and complex submissions from counsel, with Mr Palmer stepping into the courtroom shortly before 5pm.

The protracted legal battle - in which government-appointed liquidators are trying to secure court orders to freeze more than $200 million worth of Mr Palmer's assets - is expected to continue on Thursday, and possibly later in the month.

It comes after Justice Philip McMurdo on Monday refused to grant an injunction to effectively put the application to freeze the order on hold until an appeal over extra material has been resolved.

Justice Bond knocked back an attempt for the further evidence to be filed in the case in late September, noting it was in the interest of justice for matters to have "finality".

Material sought to be filed included a book authorised for production by the businessman in May 2016 called The Last Sentry at the Gate: Clive Palmer and the 44th Parliament of Australia.
