LNP wants tough stance after Qld bashing

Opposition leader Lawrence Springborg has called on the Queensland government to stand by the state's strict anti-bikie laws after a horrific domestic violence attack on the Gold Coast.

The 24-year-old woman remains on life support after her former partner - a Bandidos bikie - allegedly forced her down an embankment, into a Molendinar house, and bashed her with a metal object as she was trapped in her wrecked car.

Liberal National Party leader Mr Springborg said he would leave the legal system to deal with the case but called on the government "to stand up and defend the current laws" rather than "throw them out and roll out the red carpet to lawlessness".

"The people of Queensland are sick and tired of criminal activity from people who are involved in lawless organisations," he said.

The Queensland government is reviewing the Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment (VLAD) legislation in line with a pre-election commitment.

When asked whether cases like the shocking road rage incident would be considered in the review, the premier said it was no time to be playing politics.

"This is a tragic domestic violence incident and my understanding is that the young woman is fighting for her life at the moment," she said.

"All those matters will be investigated and I'm sure that the man involved will face the full consequences of the law."
