One dead in single-car crash in Mackay

A passenger has died in hospital following a car crash in Queensland's Mackay region.

At around midday on Monday, the car was travelling along the Bruce Highway near Sarina when it left the road, went down an embankment and collided with a tree.

The two occupants of the car, including the elderly female driver, were taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a serious condition, where the passenger later died.
