Residents in Campbell Newman's seat of Ashgrove have received text messages from the Queensland premier in the government's latest attempt to win over voters.

The text message directed voters to the Liberal National Party's "Action Plan for Ashgrove", News Corp Australia reports.

It was signed from "Campbell".

Mr Newman is standing in Ashgrove against Labor's Kate Jones, the former environment minister he defeated at the 2012 state election.

The premier holds the seat with a margin of 5.7 per cent.

Ms Jones has opted for a low-key campaign for the January 31 poll, relying on grassroots methods such as door-knocking.

She told News Corp that dozens of frustrated locals had complained about the text messaging, saying it was an invasive technique.

Mobile phone numbers were provided to the LNP through community surveys by people indicating they would like to receive further information, a party spokesman said.

"The LNP uses many methods to engage with voters about the premier's strong plan for Ashgrove," he said in a statement.

"Those receiving the SMS can easily unsubscribe if they wish."
