New speed cameras brought in to curb Queensland road toll
Queensland motorists should expect to see more point-to-point speed cameras in the coming years in a bid to help curb the rising road toll.
Queensland Transport and Main Roads revealed the Bruce Highway's point-to-point cameras catch around 300 drivers a month, with more to be caught with the new cameras.
"We've got approval to install two additional point-to-point camera sites each financial year at the moment," Peter Kolesnik from Transport and Main Roads told 9News.

It's a move that will see a new site created each year for the foreseeable future, statistically chosen by the worst crash centres.
Strong suggestions have already been made for Queensland's busiest road, the M1, to be the candidate for the first cameras.
Other possible locations include the Western and Centenary Freeways and the Gateway Motorway.
The cameras work by measuring your speed using a time over distance calculation from two different points, cameras placed 15 to 20 kilometres apart.

It's technology that Mr Kolesnik says brings in strong results in stopping road crashes.
"They were found to reduce fatal and injury crashes by 36 per cent across those 50-plus sites in the UK," Mr Kolesnik said.
