Near-naked G20 protest turns heads

Three near-naked animal rights protesters have turned heads in the Brisbane G20 security zone in an effort to convince world leaders of the benefits of veganism.

The three women, who spent half an hour painting themselves green before walking to Musgrave Park in South Brisbane, carried signs saying "go green, go vegan" in the midday heat on Thursday.

"It's a little bit uncomfortable, but it's nothing compared to what the animals are feeling right now," protester Jo Miller told reporters.

The stunt clearly caught the attention of passing motorists, who slowed and turned their heads, but the trio faced questions about whether they had cheapened their message by objectifying the female form.

"Honestly, it doesn't affect us with the paint we have and our message that we feel really passionate about, we're feeling good about this," Ms Miller replied.

The best thing anyone could do for the environment and for their health was to go vegan, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) campaign coordinator Claire Fryer said.

"The UN has stated that a global shift towards a vegan diet is necessary if we're going to fight the worst effects of climate change," Ms Fryer said.

"Obviously not everyone can afford to buy a hybrid car, but we can all do our bit for the environment just by choosing a veggie burger instead of a chicken sandwich."

She encouraged other protesters to spread their message through peaceful, legal events.

A significant police presence greeted the three as they arrived, but the peaceful protest was orchestrated without issue.

One eager spectator was warned by an officer after posing behind the trio while his male friend took a photo.
