Immigration Minister Peter Dutton insists the federal government provided "significant" help to a pregnant Somali asylum seeker who claims she was raped on Nauru.

The 23-year-old refugee was flown to Australia last week for an abortion but was returned to Nauru after five days, with the immigration department saying she had changed her mind.

"The government provided a significant amount of support (and) the lady was able to see a number of doctors and nurses including mental health nurses (with) the assistance of an interpreter," Mr Dutton said in Brisbane on Friday.
