Multiple vehicles travelling on the M1 at Pimpama have had their tyres blown after screws fell onto the busy highway.

Up to a dozen cars have had to pull over on the side of the road after tyres were pierced.

The incident has caused delays to drivers travelling south from Underwood to Loganholme.

It's believed the screws may have fallen on to the road from another car.

Police are urging motorists to avoid the area.
