"I just couldn't continue - it wouldn't be fair for me, it wouldn't be fair for the party." - Deputy Opposition Leader Tim Mulherin on his surprise decision to quit politics after almost 20 years to look after his health and his family.

"I've been meeting with everyday people for the last four years that I've been either leader of the opposition or in this job. Both as member for Ashgrove and as premier I do community cabinets, we've been to lots of different parts of this state and engaged with people, so I have and I will." - Newman defending his tightly-managed campaign and lack of interaction with members of the public.

"This is about young children going through difficulties at school - they may be having family difficulties at home, they may be having difficulties with different subjects they're going through as well." - Palaszczuk talking about Labor's guidance counsellor policy.
