Morcombes 'over the moon' about course

Bruce Morcombe admits the phone call he received this week from federal education minister Christopher Pyne was out of the blue, but it fuelled an enormous amount of pride.

Mr Morcombe and his wife Denise are celebrating after being told that their child safety course, devised after the abduction of their 13-year-old son Daniel, looks set to be included in Australia's national curriculum.

"Absolutely over the moon," Mr Morcombe told AAP on Tuesday.

"I think it's a bit of a feather in the cap for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation."

The Morcombes have met every state and territory education minister over the past twelve months, lobbying to have the course adopted nationally.

They travelled to Canberra in July to speak with 20 parliamentarians.

But in the past month, the "doors had been opened", Mr Morcombe said.

"Every school in Australia, so that's every state school, every Catholic school and every independent school does have access to the Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum."

By 2016, the material could be cemented as part of the national curriculum, after it was recommended for inclusion in a major review.

"It does give us an enormous amount of pride, in thinking that Daniel's legacy is making a difference," Mr Morcombe said.

"So many more children will be safer because of the likely implementation." Earlier this year Mr and Mrs Morcombe attended every day of the month-long trial of Brett Peter Cowan, the repeat child sex offender found guilty of murdering their boy.

Cowan is serving a life imprisonment term with a 20 year non-parole period.

The Morcombes established the foundation during their harrowing 10-year journey to find Daniel and bring his abductor to justice.

Mr Morcombe reflected on the six years the couple has spent speaking at schools.

"There's been a lot of people, including Queensland Education, people on the working group that assisted the foundation including Denise and myself, there's a lot of people behind the scenes that have done a lot of work."
