Missing man found dead in river in outback Queensland

The body of a missing man has been found in a river in a small outback town in Queensland, as police investigate how he died.

A search was sparked for the 33-year-old man after his vehicle was found abandoned near the Jim Whyte Bridge on the Norman River at Normanton in the Gulf Country on Monday.

A ground search, boats and two helicopters were used to canvass the surrounding area but about 7.10pm on Tuesday, his body was found in the river.

Several specialist police have been sent to Normanton to investigate the death as officers await postmortem results to determine his cause of death.
