Millions in first division lotto unclaimed

It's bad enough forgetting to put your lottery numbers in but that's nothing compared to the Queenslanders who have forgotten to collect almost $4 million dollars in division one prizes.

The biggest unclaimed booty is a Wednesday Gold Lotto first division worth $2 million.

The winning ticket was purchased from a Cairns' newsagent in January 2014.

There's also a $1 million stash awaiting whoever bought a Saturday Gold Lotto ticket from a Morayfield newsagent for a June 2015 draw.

The most recent winner-in-waiting has $800,000 to collect from the Gold Lotto draw on October 1.

Golden Casket's Belinda McDougall told AAP its usual for small amounts to be unclaimed and after seven years they end up with the government or returned to players in special draws or dividends.

She said if anyone believes they have purchased a winning ticket but have misplaced it , they can make a claim although the investigative process to confirm the win can take time.

For instance, in 2005 a Brisbane man made a lost ticket claim for a $23.2 million Powerball first division prize drawn in 2004.

He was paid out in 2007.
