Miller agitates for Qld cabinet return

Controversial former police minister Jo-Ann Miller is rallying for a return to Queensland cabinet.

Ms Miller, forced to resign from cabinet late last year after being dumped as police minister, has thrown her hat into the ring to replace Leanne Donaldson as agriculture minister.

Ms Donaldson resigned in parliament on Thursday after admitting to driving an unregistered car and also having an outstanding $8000 rates debt eventually settled by the Queensland Labor party.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has appointed current Police Minister Bill Byrne to take over the agriculture portfolio he held last year.

Ms Palaszczuk said many Labor MPs had expressed their interest in the role fulltime and she didn't rule out a return to cabinet for Ms Miller.

The Ipswich-based Bundamba MP said it was time for her to return to the ministry following 11 months on the backbench.

Ms Miller said she was the most experienced candidate and would hit the ground running.

"Quite frankly they need my skills around the cabinet table," she told reporters.

Meantime, key crossbencher Robbie Katter has called on Ms Palaszczuk to appoint a regional MP to the vacant role rather than someone from the state's southeast who has "no affinity with the bush".
