Men 'threatened with spear' in break-in

Two men from a northwest Queensland indigenous community will face court after allegedly threatening two others with a spear during a violent home invasion.

Police say the men, aged 21 and 27, broke into a home on Mornington Island, in the Gulf of Carpentaria, on Sunday morning and threatened two men inside with a spear.

The intruders allegedly assaulted the men, aged 65 and 21.

They were treated in hospital for minor injuries.

Police say the spear was not used in the alleged assault.

Earlier, the intruders were involved in a fight with four others elsewhere on the island, police allege.

A 15-year-old boy was treated for a minor knife wound to his back after the brawl, which police are still investigating.

Two men have been charged with one count each of forcing entry, entering a dwelling with intent and common assault, all in relation to the home invasion.

They are due to appear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on Monday.
