Mason Lee's stepfather is expected to plead guilty to manslaughter before being sentenced over the toddler's death.

William Andrew O'Sullivan was scheduled to be sentenced at Brisbane Supreme Court in August during a brief hearing on Wednesday.

He did not appear or enter any pleas.

Mason died in June 2016 in his Caboolture home from a rupture to his small intestine believed to have been caused by blunt force trauma.

He was treated for injuries in the months before his death and was at one point in hospital for three weeks with an abscess on his right leg.

As well as the manslaughter charge, O'Sullivan is facing a further count of cruelty to a child under 16 years old.

Mason's mother Anne Maree Lee remains before the courts.
