Manslaughter plea in Qld Xbox murder

A man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the brutal 2012 stabbing murder of a young Toowoomba man.

Kyle Mitchell Dumesny, 21, on Monday pleaded guilty in Toowoomba Supreme Court to one count of manslaughter over the slaying of 19-year-old Jake Lasker, who was stabbed 102 times during an Xbox session in November 2012.

The move came on the first day of a planned murder trial but prosecutors accepted Dumesny's plea to the lesser charge.

He will be sentenced on Tuesday.

Another man, Max Peter Smith, is already serving a life sentence for Mr Lasker's murder.

A bail hearing for Dumesny last year heard he did not stab Mr Lasker himself and was not even in the room when he was murdered but encouraged Smith to kill him in a series of about 250 text messages.

Outside court on Monday, Mr Lasker's father John said he was happy with the outcome and described the past four years as "tough" for the family.
