Man charged over Qld school guard stabbing

A man accused of repeatedly stabbing a security guard at an exclusive Brisbane girls' school has been charged.

Police charged the 25-year-old on Thursday night, following the stabbing of Darren Stribning at Somerville House early on Wednesday morning.

He is expected to face Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday on charges of intending to cause grievous bodily harm, wounding, robbery and entering a premises with intent to commit an offence.

Police allege property was stolen from Mr Stribning during the attack.

Mr Stribning, 51, was discharged from Princess Alexandra Hospital on Thursday after undergoing surgery.

Wife Paula Stribning was joined at her husband's bedside by staff who brought with them heartfelt messages of support from colleagues and students.

"Darren thanks everyone for their support and good wishes and will return messages once he's home in a few days and has a chance to process the events of yesterday," Ms Stribning wrote on Facebook.

It is understood the school is reviewing its security measures.

Somerville House was established in 1899 and is a day and boarding school for girls from prep to year 12.
