Man with gun surrenders to Qld police

A gunman who barricaded himself in a Brisbane shed and triggered the lockdown of suburban streets has surrendered to police.

The man fired two gunshots from inside the locked shed before eventually giving himself up, ending a tense stand-off which lasted more than four hours.

Officers declared an emergency situation at Cassia Court in Capalaba, southeast of the city, about 5.15pm (AEST) on Thursday, shutting down surrounding streets.

"The situation was resolved successfully when a 73-year-old man surrendered himself to police around 7.50pm," a Queensland Police spokesman told AAP.

"That followed an earlier incident at Cassia Court in Capalaba, where the man had locked himself in a shed on the property and was armed with a gun."

Gunshots rang out soon after police arrived at the property at about 3.35pm (AEST) and established a cordon.

"The man has fired two shots from the gun while police were in attendance," the spokesman said.

"No one was injured in the incident and the man has been transported to hospital."

The emergency situation has been suspended.
