Man shot in Gold Coast home invasion

A number of bullets were fired during a Gold Coast home invasion that has left a man in hospital after being shot in the leg, police say.

The 32-year-old concreter was shot in the thigh after an altercation with two bandana-wearing men inside his Coolangatta home just after 2am on Thursday.

The victim was taken to Tweed Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery after undergoing surgery.

Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Garrett said he was "a very lucky man" to have survived the encounter.

"During the incident we believe a number of gunshots were discharged by the offenders," he said.

Two women in their 20s, as well as another man in his 30s, were also in the property at the time, he said.

The burglars stole a safe with cash inside before fleeing in a stolen car, a black 2012 Audi Q3 with registration NV05.

The vehicle was reportedly later found by police dumped in northern NSW.

Det Sen Sgt Garrett said one of the intruders was armed with a small handgun, while his accomplice carried a pick or axe handle.

Anyone who spots the two offenders, described as being in their 30s and wearing grey and black hoodies, is urged to contact police.
