Queensland police have launched a murder investigation after the body of a 33-year-old man was discovered in inner Brisbane.

Robert Charles Frescon was found dead at his home unit in Hunter Street at Kelvin Grove on Friday afternoon.

Homicide detectives working with forensic specialists continue to work inside the apartment to determine the cause of death.

Detective Acting Inspector Christopher Toohey said on Saturday members of the public were urged to contact police if they knew anything of Mr Frescon's movements in the days leading up to his death.

They would also like to speak to locals who saw or heard anything in Hunter Street between 10pm Thursday and 3pm Friday.

"We've spoken to a lot of witnesses; there's nobody in custody at this time and we are proceeding with the investigation in an early stage," he said."

A post-mortem examination is planned for Sunday.
