A Gold Coast rapper has denied accusations he ran into the surf at a Surfers Paradise beach to avoid paying an expensive restaurant bill.

Police allege Terry Peck ordered $621 worth of lobster, octopus, oysters and alcohol at Omeros Brothers yesterday afternoon.

“We had our suspicion that he was going to do a runner,” the restaurant’s assistant manager Mark Hunnybun said.

Staff chased the 33-year-old, who then allegedly ran into the surf at Main Beach to avoid police.

Video obtained 9NEWS showed officers tackling Mr Peck, who performs as 2pec, to the sand on the shore.

The rapper claims he left the restaurant to help his friend, who was having a baby.

When Mr Peck couldn’t find his friend in labour, he said he went for a swim and lost his wallet in the waves.

The unemployed parolee said Omeros Brothers should apologise to him for “overpriced and overcooked” seafood.

Mr Peck since been charged with stealing and two counts of serious assault of a police officer.

He was granted bail at Southport Magistrates Court this morning.
