Baby safe after police storm Queensland home

A baby girl who had been held hostage south of Brisbane has been rescued after specialist police stormed a Kingston home and detained a man aged in his 40s.

Heavily armed police on Thursday morning forced their way into the Kingston home where it was feared the man was armed with a knife.

Television footage showed specialist police breaking into the house through a front window around 7.50am local time.

There were reports of shots at the same time.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman told AAP the three-week-old girl had been rescued safely.

"Matter has now been resolved - man in custody, baby taken to hospital for observation," police said on Twitter.

Specialists had earlier been negotiating with the man through the home's front door after they were called to the property around 5am.

It's believed an argument between the man and a woman he knows sparked the stand-off.

After police stormed the house ambulance officers followed.

The man, with injuries to his back and side, was subsequently led from the house by police in handcuffs.

He was wearing only dark-coloured shorts and runners and was placed on a stretcher where he was treated by ambulance officers.
