Qld police launch appeal after man's death

A pensioner who died in suspicious circumstances at his home in far north Queensland had a disability and walked with a stoop.

Police were called to the Cairns suburb of Mooroobool on Monday afternoon after the ex-wife of Robert Duffy raised the alarm something might be wrong.

Detective Inspector Geoff Marsh said the woman, who lives in Western Australia, became concerned when she hadn't heard from the 62-year-old in three days, when they usually spoke daily.

Det Insp Marsh said although an autopsy was yet to determine the cause of death, police had established a crime scene at Mr Duffy's Dood Court home.

"He was found within his bedroom," he said on Tuesday.

"The state that he was found in definitely is suspicious."

Det Insp Marsh said Mr Duffy was well-known in the area but so far police door-knocking had not shed any light on what happened.

"There's been no neighbour or anyone who can come forward at this stage who can put their finger on any particular incident," he said.

Det Insp Marsh said initial investigations suggested Mr Duffy, who was on the disability pension, had a carer at the time of his death.

An autopsy is expected to be completed by Wednesday.

Police have urged anyone with information or who spoke to Mr Duffy in recent days to come forward.
