Others involved in Dufty murder: police

Detectives probing the suspected murder of a man who vanished from the Gold Coast earlier this year believe at least one other person was involved in the alleged killing.

Three men have already faced court charged with murdering 37-year-old father Greg Dufty who hasn't been seen since July.

Superintendent Dave Hutchinson says police believe more people were involved, despite the fact no body has been found.

"We do believe one or two other persons may have been involved," he said on Thursday.

"We have a couple of positive lines of inquiry and I can't say too much more about it."

Mr Dufty's family were desperate to find the man's body and Supt Hutchinson urged those who had information to come forward.

"There are people out there that know," he said.

"We find from experience that when you get a group of people like this ... there would have been discussion other people would have been drawn into after that night."

Supt Hutchinson said no searches were being carried for the body but a large area on the Gold Coast would likely be searched over the weekend for weapons.

Liam Bliss, 25, appeared briefly in the Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with Mr Dufty's murder.

Sharni Mill, Mr Dufty's ex-partner, sat expressionless beside a detective as Bliss was taken back to the cells.

Ex-Bandido Lionel Patea, who has also been committed to stand trial for the unrelated murder of his former partner Tara Brown, and New Zealander Aaron Crawford were both charged with Mr Dufty's murder earlier this month.

Their matters have been adjourned until January 28 and Bliss's solicitor Darren Mahoney successfully argued his client's matter should be adjourned until the same date.

Mr Dufty, a pool builder who drifted between states, disappeared on July 6 after boarding a Mack truck heading to the Gold Coast hinterland.

He was last seen at Mt Nathan after being dropped off to a second waiting vehicle on Nathan Homestead Road.
