A man accused of stabbing his father to death in front of his mother has left their family in shock, while a friend who tried to stop the fatal attack has suffered a small cut to his arm.

David Llewellyn Rein, 34, has been charged with murder after allegedly attacking his father with a knife at a house on their Yandaran property on Tuesday evening before fleeing in a car.

Two uniform officers performed CPR on the father but could not revive him, police said.

"It's a family-related domestic situation and I can't elaborate any further than that," Detective Inspector Gary Pettiford told reporters.

He said Rein's mother was with police and being comforted by her other children, who weren't home at the time of the alleged incident.

"(They are) as good as can be expected, they're obviously in shock," Det Insp Pettiford said.

He said another person on the property was wounded when he tried to intervene.

Many details of the alleged murder are still being investigated and forensic experts are at the home, which has been declared a crime scene.

"The deceased has at least one stab wound to the heart area, to the chest area," Det Insp Pettiford said.

The family weren't known to police, he said.

Rein appeared briefly at Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Wednesday and will remain in custody until returning to court in October.
