Second memorial motorcyclist dies in Qld

A motorcyclist has died from injuries sustained in a far north Queensland memorial ride only 15km from a crash that claimed the life of another rider.

The 44-year-old was competing the Wogs Memorial Run when he ran off the Mulligan Highway, north of Mount Carbine, around 3.20pm on Saturday.

He died in Townsville hospital a day later, police have confirmed.

His death comes after a woman riding in the same event died after colliding with a motorcyclist travelling in the same direction.

Police say the incident happened two hours after the man's crash.

The Wogs Memorial Run commemorates a former president of the Mareeba Workers Club, which organises the event.

Club president Dale Peebles offered his condolences to the families of the killed riders.

He called the accidents an "unfortunate coincidence" and said the 15-year-old event had never had a fatality before.

"(It's) tragic that there was two accidents in one day," he told AAP.

"That was the first time she'd ... been part of the run."

A 52-year-old man involved in the second accident was taken to Cairns Base Hospital in a non-serious condition.
