Qld woman dies after car hits pole

An elderly woman has died after her car crashed into a power pole in Queensland's northeast.

The 86-year-old Rasmussen woman's vehicle collided with the pole in the Townsville suburb of Kirwan about 1.30pm on Tuesday.

She was taken to Townsville Hospital but died a short time later.

Earlier, a man died after his car hit a tree in far north Queensland. The elderly man was driving on the Mossman-Daintree Road, north of Mossman, on Tuesday afternoon when he crashed.

He died at the scene, a Queensland Police spokesman said.
