Man critical in Surfers Paradise assault

A man is in a critical condition after he was allegedly struck and hit his head on the ground in Surfers Paradise.
The 28-year-old Southport man was allegedly struck by a 19-year-old man about 1.20am on Thursday before falling backwards and hitting his head on the ground, police say.
The alleged victim remains in intensive care in Gold Coast University Hospital. The 19-year-old Victorian man has been charged with grievous bodily harm and common assault, and is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court later in the day.
