Man charged with murder in far north Qld

A man has been charged with murder after another man died from a stab wound suffered during a fight in far north Queensland.

Detectives say both men along with a group of people were involved in an altercation at a home in Downing St, Earlville, about 11pm on Tuesday night.

During the fight a 28-year-old sustained a significant chest wound and he was driven to Cairns Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detective Inspector Sonia Smith told media that a knife had been found at the scene on Wednesday.

A 27-year-old Earlville man has been charged with murder and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Thursday.
