A Queensland man whose seven-year-old son was killed in a fiery crash just after Christmas has been charged over the collision.

The 31-year-old was travelling in a truck with his son when they crashed as a result of colliding with another truck near Toowoomba, west of Brisbane.

The boy was trapped in the cabin and died at the scene and a 61-year-old driver of the other vehicle died in hospital a month later.

The crash happened on the Gore Highway west of Toowoomba when one of the vehicles attempted to turn off road at 5pm, police said at the time.

Police said the truck the boy had been in appeared to have hit the back of the vehicle in front before it overturned and caught fire on December 27, 2018.

On Tuesday the 31-year-old man was charged with driving without due care and attention causing death.

He is due to appear at Millmerran Magistrates Court on September 20.
