Man charged over hit and run deaths in Queensland

Police have charged a man over a fatal hit and run which claimed the lives of two people in Queensland.

Officers arrested a 38-year-old Palmwoods man overnight and seized a vehicle.

The man is accused of running down two men on a moped on Caboolture River Road in Morayfield on Friday night.

It is alleged he struck the scooter from behind before leaving the scene.

The impact of the crash caused the scooter to be thrown into the path of an oncoming 4WD.

Scooter passenger Simon Fergestad, 32, was killed instantly. The scooter driver, Jared Hoggan, died in hospital.

"Gone too soon, I love you," Mr Hoggan's sister wrote in a Facebook post in tribute to her brother.

The 38-year-old man has been charged with a string of offences including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death while affected by an intoxicating substance.

He'll face Caboolture Magistrates Court tomorrow.
