Man charged over fatal Toowoomba fire

Police in Queensland have laid charges after a house fire in Toowoomba killed a 63-year-old man.

A 29-year-old Toowoomba man was charged with one count each of murder, misconduct with a corpse, arson, enter dwelling with intent, serious assault police and serious animal cruelty.

Emergency crews were called on Sunday to the Rivett Street address at 8pm, with the victim and his dog being found after the blaze was extinguished.

An investigation led police to the 29-year-old who was at a nearby house when he was arrested.

Police allege he assaulted a male officer by headbutting him in the forehead, when he was taken into custody.

He is due to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
