Man bashed with hammer in suspected Facebook Marketplace deal gone wrong

A Queensland man has been left bloodied and hospitalised after being brutally bashed with a hammer during a suspected Facebook Marketplace deal gone wrong.

Emergency services were called to Edens Landing in Logan just after 8pm on Tuesday following reports of a violent assault and a car crash.

CCTV captured the moment a blue hatchback pulled up to the curb before two men in dark hoodies jumped into the back seat.

Moments later, a violent struggle broke out inside the vehicle, with the two passengers repeatedly hitting the driver – a man in his 20s – in the head with a hammer.

The driver reversed the car while under attack, clipping a parked vehicle before crashing through a fence and over a retaining wall into a backyard.

Resident Shannon Rutland described the shocking moment the vehicle ploughed into his property.

“We were doing our census, and we heard a big crash, and so I came out here, and there were two gentlemen in black hoodies,” Rutland said.

“He was bleeding, and we got him out of the car and sat him down, then the ambulance and the police arrived.”

Neighbour Janos Balogh said the sudden violence shook the neighbourhood.

“It’s just out of the blue, somebody flying through my front yard into the neighbour’s property,” Balogh said.

“I hope they are going to catch the perpetrators ... we need to be safe.”

Following the crash, the two attackers jumped out of the wrecked vehicle, scrambled back up the embankment, and fled the scene on foot after stealing the driver’s money.

The victim was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.
