Man accused of elderly dad's Qld stabbing

An elderly man has allegedly been stabbed numerous times by his son in far north Queensland.

Police say they found the 74-year-old with wounds, including to his upper torso and back of head, at a Gordonvale residence on Thursday afternoon.

His 43-year-old son was charged with one count of unlawful wounding and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrate Court on Friday.

The older man is in Cairns hospital in a stable condition.
