Man, 87, shot in second robbery in a week

Police believe two intruders who shot an elderly man in his home west of Brisbane had also robbed him a week earlier.

The 87-year-old victim was shot in the leg when he confronted the intruders as they ransacked his home in Ipswich early on Friday.

Police believe the pair knew what they were looking for, and were the same bandits who robbed the home a week ago.

"Unfortunately, the victim was the subject of a burglary just over a week ago," police Inspector Keith McDonald has told the ABC.

"It would appear ... that the persons who committed that offence have returned looking for further cash or property."

The victim lost lots of blood but did not suffer bone damage when shot in the calf at his home in Bundamba about 5.30am.

He was taken to Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police say the bandits - described as Caucasian and aged in their 20s - smashed their way into the house through a back door.

The man was shot after struggling with the intruders.

The victim was able to call 000 and was found bleeding in the kitchen.

A manhunt for the offenders continues.
